'Tis the Season...

...to be giving! And there's never been a better time for generosity. Our direct support of The Yale Record undergraduate activities is more urgent than ever as Yale itself faces financial challenges from expected taxation on its endowment, and the usual support of undergraduate activities has been curtailed and constrained.

The Yale Record Corporation (alumni) on the other hand has continued its traditional support of Record students, and your generous donations make that possible. We distributed $2,000 this year from the foundation to the students, much of which they enterprisingly invested in merchandise to sell at The Game — clearing them $5500! — and hope to increase that amount next year. We also distribute over $1,000 in annual prizes from our funds, which recognize and remember great Record contributions to literature and art, and direct a further $1250 from a fund the University controls.

Folks who give $35 or more will receive a beautiful complimentary calendar, assembled by YRC Vice President Elizabeth Kingsley, '18. The calendar includes great cover art by recent Record grads Seth Mlawski, '06; Tasha Garcia '11; Madeleine Jubilee Saito, '15; Jessica Yang, '16; and Lizzie Conklin, '25. Each year, the Yale Record calendars include high quality reproductions of the top covers from our 153 (count 'em!) year history.

30 years ago, YRC didn't exist, and The Yale Record was on life support — kept afloat by passionate students, engaged alumni, and the benevolent thoughts of Old Owl. We couldn't begin saving for the future because we were focused on the present. Today, we can afford to think about what will happen years from now — and to finally achieve the dream we (if you're from my class, '02, or younger) had as students: to own our own permanent space, free from the whims of the administration and an arbitrary market.
