What a Hoot: Fall 2025 Edition
/Hello all,
Greetings from New Haven (well, the forested Connecticut wilderness beyond New Haven — Branford, specifically). I hope this Hoot finds folks in good health. Mumble a little prayer for the Freshmen heeling for The Record; that they heel well, and that after, they are healed of whatever went into their heeling.
Under the capable leadership of the new Big Four — Devika Kothari (Chair), Terence Harris (EIC), Adam Hagens (Publisher) and Bipul Soti (Online Editor), the Yale Record is off to the races. The first public event lined up for the upcoming academic semester is the 6th annual Yale Record Standup Night, to be held jointly with The Cucumber at The Yale Club of New York on Friday evening, October 24. Anyone in the area and at loose ends is encouraged to attend. If for whatever reason you’re unable to attend that, or have for personal or professional reasons resolved never to set foot inside YCNYC again — it was one towel, I said I’d return it and I will the second you stop hassling me about it — the students are planning some activities related to The Game, which is in New Haven this year.
Meanwhile, there have been changes on the Yale Record Corporation Board. Here's the new leadership:
President: Adrian Bonenberger '02
Vice President: Elizabeth Kingsley, '18
Treasurer: Arnav Tawakley ’24
Secretary: Rob Schlaff ’99
After many years, Mike Gerber resigned his position as Treasurer and left the Board. Alongside the indefatigable Don Watson, '59 (who is still with the Board), he has given the most energy, time, and money to The Yale Record out of anyone. Drop him a note and thank him for his long years of service.
Three final items for consideration.
Don Watson ’59, YRC’s Hilarious Archivist, is putting the finishing touches on a history of the Yale Record that is sure to awe, entertain, enlighten, and astonish. Folks interested in helping him complete that project or publicize it after completing it are encouraged to reach out to him directly.
We are looking to begin fundraising specifically for permanent Record offices — an apartment within walking distance of campus will provide students with the necessary space to gather, work, and plan hijinks.
Volunteer your time or money to help out with YRC projects! We need you!
Thanks to everyone for your ongoing interest and support. Funds raised by YRC have been going to support Record initiatives for over a decade, now. Satire and the process of holding powerful individuals and interests to account is one of the finest and most noble purposes to which a citizen in a democracy can aspire, and The Yale Record continues to be an incubator for folks interested in sharpening their wit outside the classroom.
