Dear Old Owls,

After the first issue of The HOOT!, I celebrated by going to Disneyland for the month of April, drinking a wee dram of Cutty Sark from the Stanley Cup, and nibbling a tuft of grass at Wimbledon, as anyone would after successfully compiling a free email newsletter.

Lo and behold, my revelries took the better part of three months, and as I dragged my bags up the front steps, none other than Old Owl was waiting for me. After a few sharp nips of his beak, I realized  it was time once again to put the metaphorical pen to the metaphorical paper and create a new edition of The HOOT!

As always, OO was an exemplary house guest. While I was reaching out to Ben Orlin, '09, to write our first "A Jigger of Wry" column (it's about an American's thoughts on cricket!), OO lit up a Cohiba Pyramide only to let it smolder through a stack of old Eskys while he napped. And as I edited Don Watson's press release on the inaugural presentation of the KLOOT Award, FedEx delivered 100 live mice into my living room, at which point OO remarked that he was actually in the mood for voles.  

Luckily, OO's jet lag (and a sizable amount of my cognac) got the best of him, and I was able to round things out with updates on our new website yalerecordcorporation.org, Bob Grossman's speech at The Yale Club, and a number of small notices from the YRC and other Record alumni.

While this newsletter is focused on the work of the past quarter, as the summer winds down, the YRC is hard at work organizing events and finalizing our agenda for the coming year. If you have suggestions about what you'd like to see us be doing please send me a note at john.michael.thornton@aya.yale.edu.
