The New Big 4
Dom Alberts (Editor in Chief). Dom’s name is Dom Alberts. He is our incoming Editor in Chief, and we are all very excited about it! Dom is from the United Kingdom and is studying Engineering. Even though he’s from the UK, he doesn’t have one of those fancy British accents. He’s currently in Australia celebrating his sister’s wedding and doesn’t have great service, but we sure think he’s also excited about this year!
Tara Bhat (Online Editor in Chief). Tara Bhat is our new Online Editor in Chief. She’s from the wonderful state of Wisconsin and is studying Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry. She’s a real-life licensed pilot and also was dropped head-first into the Grand Canyon as a baby. She’s absolutely psyched for the year and for the gala!
Andrew Cramer (Publisher). Hi alumni! My name is Andrew Cramer and I am a sophomore in JE and next year’s publisher of the Yale Record. I’m from New York City and do lots of writing for the Record, other publications, classes, and just for fun. This is going to be a great year, and I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and keeping this outstanding publication from bankruptcy.
Natasha Weiss (Chair). Hey everybody! My name’s Natasha Weiss and I’m the incoming Chair. I’m from Santa Barbara, I’m a sophomore in Pierson, and I’m super excited for this year. I like making paper snowflakes and haven’t met a cat I didn’t like. I’m looking forward to meeting lots of you at the gala! I also wrote many of the bios in this section.
Initiation! (November 2022)
In classic Record tradition, Initiation began with a blind-folded parade to the Branford-Saybrook Room, Gregorian chants in the dark, a hearty round of toasting, and the game “two lies and a truth.” After indoor cigarette smoking by one Old Owl Joe Wickline set off the fire alarm, the Heelers evacuated to play courtyard games/get hazed with Staff Director Josephine Stark and Supplementals Editor Ed Bohannon. When the Heelers returned, they found themselves in an immersive world of characters and intrigue.
The Roseone Family Organization, headed by Don Clio Roseone and Online Don Sam Roseone, has always prided itself on its commitment to the arts alongside organized crime. They offered the hand of marriage of their daughter Adriana, whom they raised platonically, to a strong yet artistic Organization member who could ensure the stability of the Organization. After their daughter’s groom insulted modern art at their wedding, the Roseone Family Muscle, Frankie Sinatra (Natasha Weiss) executed him. The 2023 Heelers then were divided into five groups led by potential suitors. The Heelers had to help their suitor/leader pull off an art heist through a series of activities that included an art auction, a painter’s studio, and interfering with inheritance proceedings. The team who brought back the most beautiful art won the Initiation challenge. But in a much larger sense, every Heeler won that night, because they earned a spot on the Record masthead!
Ed Bohannon climbs through lasers to steal a priceless work of art. New Staff Member Bella clutches Girl With a Pearl Earring, by Johannes Vermeer.
Yale Record Class Rings
Don Watson and I worked with Signitas to get Old Owl on to your class ring. Go to the Signitas website. Underneath school art you'll see Old Owl:
Don based the work of Howard Van Doren Shaw. The artwork is based on the first appearance of Owd Owl drawn by a YR artist (the earlier versions were typesetter’s standard. If you want customizations (e.g., class years) you can email them at info@signitas.com.
